Megan Brown - (8/22/05)Megan had her wisdom teeth out just before leaving for college.She thought her first couple of days there were awesome. UPDATE6/24/06 Megan has decided to transfer to Auburn.She will be starting her Sophomore year there in August. UPDATE 5/18/08 Megan was home for a a couple of weeks this summer. Lauren Truax - (8/18/05)Lauren is moving into Miami on August 19.She is planning to play water polo in the spring and hopes to see everyone when they swim Districts at Miami.She also says she is always up for getting e-mails - so feel free to write her!!! UPDATE 5/28/08 Lauren studied in Europe her First Semester this year and then finished up at Miami for this year. She has given up coaching and lifeguarding to get a "real" job for the summer. Greg Bieler - 10/2/04 Greg showed up to at the McLennan Water Polo Tournament to cheer his sister on in a couple of games, especially the Sycamore - UA game.In fact, he and Joey Krone ran the clock for that game.Greg is not playing water polo at Miami, putting all his spare time into the ROTC program which he is thoroughly enjoying.

Rob Truax - (8/16/04) will be studying mechanical engineering at M. I. T.He also will be playing water polo.(8/23/05)Rob will be the starting goalie for the MIT water polo team this year.Also, he is officiallyregistered in themechanical engineering program. UPDATE 2//15/08 Rob proposed to Elizabeth Stinger, the girl he has been dating since he was a Jr., over winter break. The wedding is planned for July 18, 2009. Rob will graduate in June from MIT with a bachelor's in mechanical engineering, but will be staying at MIT as he begins his PhD program, also in mechanical engineering and robotics. Elizabeth will graduate in May and will look for a teaching job in the Boston area. UPDATE 5/22/08 Rob's update states that his finance, Elizabeth, has a teaching job in Randolph, Massachusetts. Corrie Von Amerongen - (9/16/04) is at the University of Maryland, College Park, majoring in Journalism.She is hoping to be a reporter for the newspaper "The Diamondback". She likes Maryland a lot, even though East Coast schools call "pop" "soda".That's a little hard to get used to.Corrie is looking into their club swimming, but has heard it is almost as competitive as their varsity team! UPDATE 5/9/08 Corrie has had a great time at the University of Maryland where she is graduating with a double major in Spanish and Public Relations. Rachel Wang - (9/2/04)Rachel sends her greetings from sunny and warm North Carolina where she is attending Duke University.She is studying biomedical engineering with a minor in musical performance.She just got voted president of student council and she is very excited about that.Rachel is also on the club swim team. UPDATE 5/8/08 Rachel graduates form Duke this week with a degree in biomedical engineering. She will be moving to Atlanta to work for Cryolife, a biotech company, as a project specialist. Not only is she starting a new job, she will be taking her masters in tissue engineering from GA-Tech and going to Emory business school part time. Besides the new job and her continuing education plans, she will be planning her wedding which will be in June of 2009. Suzanne Wight - 9/30/04 - is at Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania.She has a really heavy course load for her major, Architectural Engineering.She really loves Penn State and wouldn't trade it for any other school.Suzanne is involved in the Women in Engineering program through PSU, and also the residence hall association.But what she is really having fun with is playing intramural flag football with her hall.She looked into the club water polo program, but it conflicted with some of her evening classes.Suzanne hopes to get a house or apartment for next school year. She has been following what her brothers are doing in Sycamore WP.Her oldest brother, Alan, is the boys water polo coach, and younger brother Phil is playing water polo for Sycamore.

Suzanne is graduating with a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from PSU. She will be working for BPGS, an in-house construction management firm for The Buccini/Pollin Group. This is a large property management and land development firm in Philadelphia, Wilmington, Baltimore and DC. Suzanne will start her job in July. Dani Dimasso - (10/6/03) is at Wright State majoring in Middle Childhood Education and planning to minor in Spanish.She, too, is doing a lot of lifting and is finding the routine very tough.They practice early morning with the lifting and practice 3 hours a day - Monday -Friday, and 4 hours on Saturday.She is already looking forward to their winter break training trip to Largo, Florida.(11/26/05)Dani has switched her major to Integrated Language Arts/English Education.She will be doing her observations and a little student teaching in spring of 2006.She keeping her minor in Spanish, and will move that to a major when she finished with her education degree.Dani is living in an on-campus apartment with another diver and two grad students.Dani was on the academic honor roll for the Horizon League Conference all of last year and hopes to keep up her academic excellence this year. UPDATE 1/4/07 Dani is in her senior year and back to competing after knee surgery this past summer. She had a diving accident during practice and she had to have her kneecaps realigned. She is almost 100% and is working on new dives she learned over Christmas when they took a training trip to Florida. Dani is working on a double major of English and Spanish. She should complete her English degree in March, and then will concentrate on her Spanish degree. She hopes to be able to spend a semester in Spain after all of that!. UPDATE 5/9/08 Dani received a 5th year NCAA Academic Scholarship and will complete her Masters Degree in Language Arts this June. She is student teaching at Fairborn High School near Dayton. In the Fall of 2007, she coached Miamisburg High School Dive team and 4 divers made it to the District Meet. Erin Bokulic -is attending Ohio State University.Erin is a Criminology major and History minor, and would like to teach after she graduates.Last year Erin joined Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity and Sarah Olexsey is her "big" sis which is someone who mentors younger members as they learn about fraternity life. ( 10/23/03) Erin had to give up water polo this year because of severe problems with her back.She will undergo surgery on her back on December 10 to fuse some discs in her back.She is a little nervous about the surgery, but feels it will be well worth it if she has less pain.UPDATE 6//25/06Erin has graduated from Ohio State University with a BA in Criminology.While at OSU, Erin was President of Mortar Board Senior Class Honor Society.She was also Vice President of Scholarship for her sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta.This fall Erin is traveling east to attendto law school at New England School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts.She will be studying criminal and juvenile law.(e-mail:bokulic.1@osu.edu)

Sarah Steele - is attending Wooster College and her major is communication sciences and disorders.Sarah is continuing her swimming career at Wooster.She was sick just before Thanksgiving and when she got home and checked out, she found out she had mono.She is just now getting back into the water and starting out slowly to get into shape.UPDATE1/17/03Sarah has changed her major to communication studies .She has recovered from mono and swimming really well.(See Wooster web site on Swimming Links button on home page.)Her conference meet is in four weeks, and she will be swimming the 400 I.M., 200 Breast and 200 Free!UPDATE 6/5/05Sarah has graduated but is not sure what she wants to do.For the summer she will be head coach at Harpers Point again, and start testing the job field.UPDATE 10/5/05Sarah will be an assistant swimming coach for Loveland High School this year.She is also working part time at The Gap in the Kenwood Mall while looking for a full time job. Jill Ursini- is majoring in Exercise Science at George Washington University.This is a premed type of program offered by GW's College of Public Health and Health Sciences.Jill is one of two freshmen women on the team that will graduate a high number of seniors.So far, they are undefeated in conference meets, but they will be facing a full meet schedule when they return from break.Speaking of break, Jill's training trip was to St. Croix Island.Jill states that she did practice hard and participated in a pentathlon while there.She also states that she has a nice tan!Jill feels her swimming is going well, and she is ranked 2nd at GW in the 200 Free and the 200 Fly, and 3rd in the 500 Free.GW's 800 free relay is 2nd in the Atlantic 10 Conference.Her top ranking in the A-10 Conference is in her 200 Fly where she is ranked 10th.The A-10 Conference meet is in Buffalo - (if the snow melts!!!).UPDATE 12/20/02Jill is still swimming, but on a limited basis.She is still fighting problems with her back.However, she has found a lot of other areas to keep her busy.She is working in a volunteer program called Project Health, working with doctors and inner city kids who have asthma.She teaches them good health habits and also swims with them.UPDATE6/6/05Jill has job with a well-known Ear, Nose, Throat firm who has offices in Washington and Maryland.Jill is living with a family in Chevy Chase, Maryland, which is very close to the office she is working in.The family she is living with has a 4 year old boy, so Jill watches him when she comes home from work for 3 hours each night.Jill plans on becoming a physician's assistant, and working this year will give her the clinical experience she needs to apply for the medical courses she needs. Karen Anderson - is entering her sophomore year at Wright State majoring in early education, which is for children in 3rd grad and younger.She is still spending her summers at the Blue Ash Recreation Center as an swim lesson instructor and lifeguard.Karen says that she misses swimming but is about to take up a new sport--fencing. UPDATE 7/13/07 Karen was married on May 27 to Scott Whitlock, also of the class of 2000. Their honeymoon was to Cancun, Mexico for eight days. Karen worked in Dayton at Franklin Montessori, a school in the Dayton City school system. She had grades 1-3. Where she will be this fall is still uncertain since the Dayton School Levy failed. For the summer she is still working at the BARC, but she is now Assistant Pool Manager. Karen has been with the BARC for ten years.
Justin Herbe - is attending Ohio State University.He played water polo for the University team this fall.Ohio State finished in seventh place at the Big 10 Championships.Justin is in the Army ROTC at Ohio State and has contracted with the Army for four years once he graduates.He plans to go Air Borne or Air Assault when school is finished.UPDATEJustin played water polo again this fall (2001), but they didn't do as well as they had hoped to in the Big Tens.Also this fall, as a member of ROTC, Justin participated in the Ranger Challenge team for the Buckeye BattalionThe competition took place at Fort Knox and all the ROTC programs in colleges from Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee participated.The competition consisted of a 6 mile run with 40 pound backpacks, grenade throwing, a rope bridge and patrol simulations.Out of about 35 teams, Ohio State came in second!!!UPDATEJustin graduated from OSU in June andhas been in the army 7 months as an Infantry 2nd lieutenant.Starting in February, we will attend Ranger school in Anchorage, Alaska.He says that the army and college have NOTHINGin common. Although he is finding service life tough, he loves what he gets to do each day. UPDATE 8/12/06 Ran into Justin at Starbucks. He is home for 2 weeks, mainly to see his Mom who is quite ill. He goes back to Alaska for a month and then to Louisiana for training on the culture of Iraq. In October he expects to be shipped over to Iraq.
Liz Jones Clemens - Now that my first quarter at Ohio University is under my belt, I can gladly say that I chose the perfect school for me.I left Cincinnati with only a few friends joining me at OU, but I think that has worked out for the best.Not only have I bettered my friendships with my fellow Sycamore graduates, but I have also made many friends who I have so much in common with.My acceptance to OU's Scripp's School of Journalism is what confirmed my enrollment, and I plan to specialize in magazine journalism.I am playing club water polo, which is great!I am not yet ready to abandon the idea of "TEAM" that has been with me for 13 years!All in all, I am very happy and I'd recommend Ohio University to everyone.Come Visit!!!

Jeff had his younger brother Mitch as his best man, and his sister Jennifer Ciok ('96) did a reading. Liz and Jeff will be living in Chicago when they return from their honeymoon in Jamaica.

Dan Ketchum - Dan is ranked #1 in the country for the 200 Freestyle.He is tied with Klete Keller for this position.Both boys have a 1:34.99 in the event.Dan swam his race at the Big 10 Championships at the University of Minnesota.Dan has also received the award as the Big 10 Freshman of the Year, an award that has been dominated by Michigan Freshman over the past several years.UPDATEDan had a very successful NCAA meet.He finished 7th in both the 200 Free and 500 Free with times of 1:35.96 and 4:20.10, respectively.He also competed in the mile, finishing 13th with a time of 15:04.01.Dan also was on the 800 Free Relay for Michigan which finished 3rd, and he had a lead-off 200 time of 1:34.90.He also was on the 400 Medley Relay.Following that meet, he went to the USA National Championships and swam the 200 Free.On the basis of that swim, he has qualified to the World University Games in the 200 Free and the 800 Free Relay.UPDATE:Dan placed 3rd in the World University Games in the 200 free with a final time of 1:50.59, slightly over his semi-final race of 1:50.33.Dan was also anchor on the 800 free relay that placed second.UPDATE11/14/02Danwritesthat school is going well, but he is finding the type of engineering he is studying this year not to be of real interest to him.Dan has been having some shoulder problems for about 6 months, but it doesn't seem to be affecting his swimming.This past summer he made the Pan Am Games for 2003, and he is excited about that.This fall his times have been ahead of where he normally is at this time of the year, so he is hoping his shoulder holds up for the season.Dan is excited about this team with the freshmen they recruited, and believes that Michigan has a chance to be in the top five.UPDATE7/9/04Dan has become the firstSycamore swimmer to make an Olympic swimming team.He will be a member of the 800 Free Relay by virtue of his swim in the 200 free in which he placed 5th with a time of 1.48.67 - .77/100 faster than his semi-final swim and his personal best.CONGRATULATIONS, DAN, AND GOOD LUCK IN ATHENS!!!UPDATE 8/19/04Dan was a member of the 4x200 Free relay event.He swam in the prelims of the event.The team went on to win the event and by virtue of his participation in the event, Dan also was presented with a Gold Medal.UPDATE 9/17/04Dan was honored prior to the Sycamore-Colerain football game for his participation and gold medal in the 800 free relay at the Olympics.Dan received a glass plaque etched with the Olympic rings and worded "Aves to Athens, 2004 Olympics, Dan Ketchum, 4x200 Free Relay".In turn, Dan presented an Olympic flag to the school that had been signed by members of the Men's Olympic Team.Dan will end his swimming career by competing in the Short Course Meters World Championships in Indianapolis in October.He will swim in the prelim relay event on October 8.UPDATE 10/09/04Dan finished his swimming career by participating in the Short Course Meters World Championships.He swam both the prelim and finals of the 4 x 200 Free Relay.He led off in the prelims and swam the third leg of the relay for finals.The United States team was in a virtual tie with the Australians when Dan enter the pool and he gave them about a second and a half lead, helping the United States to win the event by a mere 7/100ths.Dan now posses a World Championship Gold Medal and an Olympic Gold Medal.UPDATE 1/29/06Dan was inducted into the Sycamore Hall of Fame on January 28.He finished his Master's program and graduated in December.He is in a training program at GE and is working at the Evendale plant for his first rotation which will be for six months.Also, Dan will be married in June to a girl who was on the Michigan swim team.They will be married in Philadelphia. Rachel Owens - is attending the University of Tennessee and is in pre-med.There is no girls water polo team at UT, but Rachel was told that if she could get 14 girls to participate, the University would support the team.Rachel is now attempting to find 14 or more girls that would be interested.She is also lifeguarding at the UT pool. Brian Sweeney - is playing water polo for Miami University.He is a goalie for the team, taking the position over from another Sycamore graduate, Jeff Reese, '96.Miami hosted the MAC Championships this weekend, and won their Conference.They will be playing in Nationals in Gainesville, Florida, next weekend.Brian was selected to First Team All Conference as a result of his play.This is quite an honor for a sophomore player.Way to go, Brian.11/03/01
Jeff Clemens - graduated from Ohio University in December, 2003.He is working in Chicago with his uncle who took over the family business of appliance stores.While at Ohio U., Jeff not only played on the Men's Water Polo Team, but coached the Women's Team.Jeff recently found out that he was picked as as All American in Water Polo - the first player from Ohio University to ever be selected.This is a great honor for Jeff.(4/5/04) UPDATE 2/19/06 Jeff proposed to Liz Jones ('00) at the Drake Hotel in Chicago.They will be married the spring of 2007. Kristin Stanford - is attending Indiana University on a scholarship for water polo. The girls season is in the spring, so practices this fall have been minimal. After the first of the year, things will pick up tremendously for Kristin, and she is looking forward to actually getting to play.Kristin's major is exercise science.UPDATE 5/2/02Kristen will graduate from Indiana University on May 4.She will start her post graduate study on Monday, May 6, in exercise physiology. UPDATE 4/06/04 Kristin has completed her Masters Degree from Indiana University, and is working for NASA in California.She is in the Life Sciences Division, the space physiology lab.She interned there the past two summers.She will start her Doctoral program at UCSD in July.Kristin will be in the Biomedical Sciences program with a focus area in Physiology.The program is very intriguing to Kristin as it encompasses cancer biology and genetics. Chuck Tyler - is attending Denison University and is a member of the Big Red swimming team.He is still specializing in breaststroke and middle distance free.His major is Economics and his minor is International Studies.UPDATEChuck has given up his swim suit for something different.He joined Denison's crew this fall and they had a very successful season.The first weekend in November they went to a regatta in Atlanta where they raced against 34 schools, mostly Division I.Chuck's boat came in 3rd, and he was very excited about it.They will have another season of racing in the spring.UPDATEReceived a long update from Chuck.He has changed his minor to Communications, his major is the same.He is captain of the men's crew team.The team has been bolstered by some strong freshman and returning crew members who are really committed to see the team be competitive.Check out the web site for crew at www.denison.edu/clubs/crew/.It has mostly last year's information, but there are some pictures.Upcoming for October 27 is a race in Columbus, and then Nov. 3 a race in Atlanta.This past summer Chuck worked at a sailing camp in North Carolina.While there, he coached about a dozen counselors and campers for the Swim the Neuse River competition.The swim was 3 miles across the Neuse River which is near the Intercostal Waterway.Chuck says "it is a dirty, jellyfish laden body, but some of these competitors had been eyeing it since they were young. Alan Wight - is at Ohio University where he is part of the Ohio Bobcat swim team swimming backstroke, of course, and IM.He is looking forward to taper which will be starting soon and he will be going into his first conference meet.Alan has not yet picked a field to major in.UPDATEAlan participated in the MAC Championships held at Miami University.He was 12th in the 100 Back and 18th in the 200 Back.UPDATE 11/9/03Alan graduated from Ohio U in May 2003.He is hoping to travel in Europe next spring with a college buddy, but in the meantime he has accepted a coaching position with Sycamore as Assistant Varsity Coach.Alan says he kind of misses being in the water, but it is fun to remain on the dry side.UPDATE5/05Alan is taking a bike tour which started by his returning to Athens to see friends.He then biked over to the east coast and is seeing friends and family.He actually left his bike in Maryland and took a more conventional way to go see friends in New York City.The trip is doing well. UPDATE 4/19/08 Alan is coaching a Masters team at UC. They had a very successful team this year. UC started with about 5 or 6 swimmers and it is now up to approximately 20. Cheryl Ursini Phillabaum - graduated from Mt. St. Joesph in 2002 . She had a job as a Marketing and Product Manager, but left that job in 2005 because she was doing too much traveling and wanted to be home more. Cheryl was married on July 1, 2006, to Jason Phillabaum, an assistant prosecutor for Butler County. They are living in West Chester with their 3 dogs. They are building a new house also in West Chester. Cheryl is studying for her Real Estate license which she hopes to have in the next few months.

Mary Kate Dick - is going into her fourth year at UC in the five year Graphic Design program at the college of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning.She has had internships the past two summers.Last summer and winter she worked at the City of Cincinnati's Design Department, doing signage and printwork with their design team.This summer, (2000), she has worked in Baltimore, Maryland for a large design firm called RTKL. Monica Ford - has been a busy girl since graduation from high school.She was as Miami for one year in zoology, and graduated from UC in nursing.She worked at Christ Hospital for a year on the renal transplant floor, but didn't like that too well.So she decided to visit family in Hawaii - where she decided to stay and go back to school at the University of Hawaii where she is studying to be a nurse practioner in family health.Monica has become a "surfer girl".When not working at the Queens Medical Center, she can be found surfing day or night (full moon only).She also has become interested in triathlons and is competing as part of the University's triathlon team.She plans on finishing her degree by the end of this year.3/24/04UPDATE3/28/05Monica is still living and working in Hawaii.She graduated as a nurse practioner in December, but hasn't taken her test yet.Work is busy, and sleep and work are taking up most of her time.She still surfs, but has broken ribs right now, due to a recent accident.Monica's parents will be moving to Michigan in June.Mr. Ford was transferred there about 2 years ago, and Mrs. Ford is getting ready to put the house on the market.(e-mail:chunkimo2@hotmail.com)

Jason Preglow - UPDATE 11/16/00-Jason is still swimming at Albion and he is really excited about his senior year.He is swimming the 100 and 200 fly, and fly on the medley relay.He thinks he has a shot at making the Championships in both events, as well as getting his National cut in those evens.Good luck, Jason! ....has been at Albion College for 3 years, having spent his freshman year at Hartwick College in New York.He is working on a degree in Computer Science. Beth Wells Atnip - is a junior at University of Kentucky with a major in kineisiology and a minor in business.She has a scholoarship to play soccer and had her most successful year yet as a goalkeeper.Beth was names as an all-tournament player at the UK Tournament.Beth was instrumental in helping Kentucky go on a 15 game winning streak, and also to attain second round of the NCAA tournament.She was red-shirted her sophomore year so will be staying an extra semester to fulfill her eligibility.After graduation, Beth hopes to continue her education by getting a Masters in exercise science and then continue on in the same field to get her PhD. Her jobs at school entail working at the fitness center, and next semester being a lifeguard at the pool.UPDATE(May 2001)Beth just got engaged and is planning on getting married a year from now.UPDATE3/2/02 Beth graduated in December from Kentucky, and is continuing there to get her graduate degree in Health Promotions.She is working for the University of Kentucky at the Underground Fitness Center on campus.Beth is also swimming for the Masters swim team there, and is training for a triathlon that she and her fiance' hope to do.UPDATE8/23/02Beth and Eric were married on June 15 in Cincinnati.Both of them have been training for the Wisconsin Ironman which will be held on September 15.Beth also was recently ranked in the top ten of the mile in short course swimming for her age group in USMS Masters swimming.Check out her new e-mail.UPDATE 3/30/03Beth is finishing her Masters in Recreation Management in August and is studying to take the exam for a Masters in Business.If all goes well, she will start that this summer and will be finishing up one Masters and starting courses for another.Besides still working at the Fitness Center, she and her husband, Eric, have started a Triathlon Club at the University.They train the students and register them to do triathlons.She really likes working with them.She and Eric are looking to do another Ironman Triathlon next year.UPDATE 5/14/04 Beth graduated from the University of Kentucky on May 8. 2004 with a Master of Science Degree in Health Promotion.Her husband also graduated with a Master of Science Degree in KinesiologyUPDATE 9/19/04Beth was featured in an article on the Enquirer sports page regarding her participation in triathlons.She started competing in 2001 and has participated in more than 20 triathlons, her latest one the Wisconsin Ironman Triathlon on September 12.It was her second Ironman and her best time at 12 hours, 18 minutes.This weekend, her Triathlon Club at UK is running a triathlon to raise money for eye research and they are expecting 250 participants.This triathlon will include an 800 meter swim, a 20 mile bike and a 4 mile run. UPDATE 10/17/07 Beth and Eric are still living in Lexington, KY and are still working for the campus recreation department for the University of Kentucky, and Beth is also working as a personal trainer at a local gym. They just finished their fourth Ironman in September. They competed in Ironman Wisconsin and had a blast! Beth still enjoys swimming with the local masters swim team, and has recently started competing in bike races in addition to triathlons. Rolland Colon - is living in Mission Viejo, California,where his family was transferred to several years ago.Rolland completed two years at Miami and then worked in construction for a while, and is now back in a community college, Saddleback College, trying to finish up a degree in secondary education.UPDATE7/31/01 Rolland decided not to continue at Saddleback College, and is now working for Balboa Capital, the largest privately held leasing company in the U. S.He is a dive-master for a scuba shop in Mission Viejo.His most exciting dive was when he went down 101 feet and touched the underside of the Yukon, a sunken battle cruiser in San Diego.He is also starting to do some sky diving, and has been up five times.The most fun he is having is being a club DJ.That keeps him pretty busy when not at the 9-5 job! Ashley Combs - is a senior at Miami University will graduate in May with a major in zoology and a minor in history.While at Miami, she continued her water polo career for all four years, three of them as goalie.Other Sycamore swimmers on the Miami team include Julie Commons ('96) and Brooke Jordan ('99).Ashley plans to travel to Nepal for six weeks with a group from school after graduation.Their plans include hiking to the base of Mount Everest and learning about the culture in Nepal.Upon returning to the States, Ashley will be looking for a job out west as well as looking for a graduate school where she can study more on environmental science and wildlife conservation.Two summers ago she went to Kenya, Africa, and did an anthropological dig.A lifetime experience for her.(e-mail:ashleydcombs1@yahoo.com.)

Melissa Neal - graduated from Indiana University with degrees in Computer Information Systems and Western European Studies and is now living in Colorado Springs and is employed as a web engineer for Agilent Technologies.While in college, Melissa spent 6 months studying and working in London.After one year of playing water polo, she traded in the swim suit for some climbing gear.After graduation, Melissa celebrated her last summer before becoming a "real person" by traveling and climbing throughout Spain.When not at work, she is usually found hanging half-way up the side of any given mountain. UPDATE 7/26/02 Melissa is now living in Boulder, Colorado, and is still working for Agilent Technologies as in IT Engineer.She is still climbing a lot and enjoying the beautiful West.Melissa is currently training for the Chicago Marathon, and will be participating in her first Iron-Man triathlon in August. UPDATE 12/5/02 Melissa had a great time in the Chicago Marathon, and she hopes to get more in this year.She is also training for a triathlon and has picked up Sponsorship and will be competing on the Fleet Feet-Boulder team for the 2003 season.Melissa will be home during the Christmas holiday this year. UPDATE 5/12/03 Melissa continues to participate in triathlons, and is coming back to Ohio to participate in one in Columbus with brother Ryan, who attends Ohio State University.The triathlon will be held the first week of June. UPDATE 12/23/03 Melissa is back in town for the Christmas holiday and was working out at Tri-Health Fitness Center.She is quitting her job and is going back to school at the University of Colorado in Boulder.She will be in a 3-year doctorate program to get her Physical Therapy degree.She thinks this is more in tune with her lifestyle - which is doing triathlons.She had planned on running in the Chicago Marathon this year, but had a stress fracture.She is back running and hope to qualify for the Boston Marathon.Melissa will be moving in with friends in Boulder while attending the University. UPDATE 2/28/04 Melissa actually is swimming again on the University of Colorado swim team.She has done some meets with them, and even won the 1,000 Free in a meet.She finds it fun and it is keeping her in shape for triathlons. Jeff Reese -has been at Miami University the past two years.He is majoring in Accounting with a minor in History and Management Information Systems.He has played Water Polo for Miami the past two years and currently is President of the Club.UPDATE - 10/29/00Jeff was voted Midwest Division Player of the Week in Water Polo following the Midwest Championships October 20 and 21.Jeff is goalie for the Miami University team that won the Midwest division and is headed for Nationals for the third time in the past 5 years.Also, Miami is ranked #2 in the nation headed into Nationals which will be held in Seattle in November.UPDATEMiami University came in 11th place in the club championship water polo tournament.They were seeded second, but Jeff states that the team could not come back from their first round loss.That is until they played Jason Wickes' team, Washington University, for eleventh place and won 15-11.Jeff says "it was good to play Jason's team for the last game".Jeff also passes on good news:he has a job with the Chicago Board of Trade as a staff auditor.He will be checking to make sure that companies trading at the Board are capable of paying their fees and costs.He will be doing a lot of traveling to New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.UPDATEJeff and Julie Commons are engaged and planning on getting married August 24, 2002.They have bought a condo in Ravenswood, a section of Chicago that they both like.They live there with two kittens!Jeff has also started grad school at Loyola.He is working toward his MBA in Finance and Accounting.UPDATE8/25/02Jeff was married to Julie Commons in Montgomery on August 24, 2002.Several teammates from High School were in the wedding party:Jason Wickes, who now lives in San Diego; Brian Danner, who is back in Cincinnati; Darrell Norris, who is also living in Cincinnati; and Dan King who is working in Dayton.UPDATE 1/30/03 Jeff is studying for his CPA exam which will be given in May.He has taken this semester off from Loyola and working on his MBA to study.However, he hopes to return to Loyola this summer and graduate in November with him MBA.(See Julie Commons Reese update above.)UPDATE 7/10/06 Jeff has a new job with Grant Thornton LLP in Chicago.He continues doing internal audits.He recently was promoted to Manager and now has some people under him!He travels almost constantly, but he loves what he is doing.Jeff has a new email. Dave Scarborough - UPDATE 11/16/00 -Dave wrote a quick note before leaving for the field in the second-to-last phase of training.He is looking forward to joining the Masters Swim program at his base.He says that although he hasn't done any "normal" training, he feels his training for the SERE program has kept him in shape.UPDATE - 8/25/00 Dave sent a very extensive e-mail about his training in the SERE program.He has gone through three "official" phases of training:One was the familiarization phase learning basics;two was the mobile phase where he learned everything there was to know about navigation.That phase culminated by climbing Calispell Peak, 6855 feet, with 60 pound backpacks.The third phase was the desert phase to the center of Washington, just east of the Cascades.The first 36 hours the instructors took all of their water so that they could experience real dehydration.While there, Dave caught a small rattlesnake.He doesn't give us the whole detail, but says the skin is drying in his room.He is now in the medical phase.Histraining and experiences at the BARC have helped him here.This unit also incorporated Roughland Evacuation and Rock Climbing which he will be doing next week.After that he looks forward to phases in Coastal/Tropics, Evasion, Teaching Techniques and Arctic. Dave left Butler University in February and went into the Air Force in the SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape) program.Davecompleted is Basic Training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio and received the Honor Graduate Award and Ribbon which only about 10% of basic trainees receive. Heis now in Spokane, Washington, where he will begin his training as an instructor in the SERE program in July.There are only 350 instructors in this program which is physically and mentally demanding , and Dave feels he is very lucky to be in the program.Once he has completed this part of his training, he hopes to continue with college and get a degree which will then allow him to become an officer in the Air Force.UPDATE 4/17/03 Dave is now stationed at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida.He is teaching Parachuting Water Survival for the Air Force.He is teaching pilots how to parachute into the ocean and how to survive in that situation.He is slated to go through Basic Airborne School where he will qualify to jump from aircraft.While he was still at Fairchild AFB, he received an Air Force Achievement Medal for spotting, responding and fighting a forest fire.He also got a good Conduct Medal for being in the service for 3 years.UPDATE2/16/05Got an e-mail from Dave in Pensacola.He is getting ready to be deployed in a couple of months - probably around October or November..He is looking forward to putting into practice some of the things he has been teaching others.He will be home the 6-11th of March, before he leaves.Dave has been dating Mandy Keller ( '98) for about a year, and she is planning on moving to Pensacola to get her MBA at University of Western Florida.This was all planned before Dave received his orders.Dave is back to bike riding, and last summer he rode across Iowa (which he says is definitely not flat) with the Air Force Cycling Team.He will be doing it again this summer too. UPDATE 5/26/06 Dave has been sent to a new assignment in Utah.He and Mandy just moved there and they are busy getting settled in, as well as getting ready for the wedding.Dave and Mandy Keller will be married on July 8 in Montgomery. UPDATE 7/8/06 Dave and Mandy Keller (Sycamore class of'98) were married in Montgomery.The reception was held at Sharon Woods Lodge. UPDATE 4/30/07 Dave is now stationed in Iraq. He received a 2-week notice in March that he would be sent to Iraq. He is supposed to be back home in August. While in Utah, he was working with life flight and rescue, as well as working with F-16 pilots. He also helped train cadets in Utah State's ROTC program. Sarah Vogler - went to Ohio State University for a year and then transferred to Gannon University in Erie, Pa., to finish up her undergraduate degree in pre-med/Biology.While at Gannon she participated in varsity sports in cross country and swimming.She was also a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority.Sarah graduated from Gannon in May with a BS in biology and has just learned she was accepted at the University of Cincinnati Medical School which she will start in the fall.Congratulations and good luck, Sarah! Jason Wickes - 9/16/03 graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with 3 degrees:a BS in both Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, and a Masters in Business Administration.In college he was active in his fraternity, honoraries, student government, community service, Swimming and Water Polo.His Senior year his team traveled to Seattle, Washington, for the Collegiate Club Championships.The last game on the schedule was against Miami University whose goalie was ex-Sycamore teammate Jeff Reese.Miami won, but Jason got two goals past Jeff!I Guess Jeff didn't mind too much, Jason was an usher at Jeff and Julie's wedding.After college Jason moved to San Diego and is doing a myriad of things.He is currently owner and partner of battlemonkey.net - an online media broadcasting company.He has started his own bodyworking practice and is over halfway to earning his Holistic Health Practitioner license for the State of California.He is working in a health clinic but also opened his own studio in February 2003.Jason is not married, but is currently dating a yoga instructor and former swimmer.In the little spare time he has left, he is swimming to stay in shape for the San Diego Shores Master's water polo team.Jason passes on a big "Hello" to all his friends and former teammates. Dan Costura - graduated from Ball State with a BS in History and a Bachelors of Landscape Architecture in 1999. While there, he played water polo for three years, and helped the team various years as captain, vice-president and president of the Water Polo Club.He is now at Cornell University working towards his Masters in Landscape Architecture. Dan's goal is to teach Landscape Architecture at the University level.His summer work for three years was working at an archaeological site in Madison, Indiana. UPDATE 8/30/06 Dan is living in Ithaca, New York, where he is attending and teaching at Cornell University. Dan is working on his PhD in Anthropology with a focus on Archaeology, after already having one Masters in Landscape Architecture, which he received in 2002. He is teaching a course this semester and also co-directing an archaeological dig. Dan got married August 1, 2004, to Maureen who is also working on her PhD in Anthropology/Archaeology. Together they have done quite a bit of traveling - Ireland, Canada, England, Honduras and Italy. While in Honduras, Dan got his Open Water Diver PADA Certification. In England he spent time with his brother, Dave, (Class of '91) who lives in Bourne. Mike Dick - graduated from Ohio State in 1998 with a BA in Political Science.While at Ohio State, Mike was Vice Presidnet of the Mortar Board Senior National Honor Society, Commander of the Army ROTC detachment and also involved in the Officer's Christian Fellowship and Campus Crusade. He graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry.From Ohio State, Mike went directly to Ft. Benning where he was a platoon leader in the 101st Airborne Division, Ft. Laurie Kerns Barron- attended Indiana University in Blooomington on a swimming scholarship.She swam all four years and was voted captain her senior year.She graduated with a BS in accounting/computer information systems in 1998.While at Indiana she was Vice-President and Secretary of the Student Athlete Advisory Board which wasliason group between the Big Ten, IU and the NCAA.She was also a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Michele Lichtenberger - graduated from Notre Dame with a BS in BioChemistry, and almost a second major in theology. Her first job was at Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville, Florida teaching chemistry and religion and coached soccer and swimming.While there, Michele entered an advanced educationalprogram called Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) and graduated as Valedictorian of her class with a Masters in Education. Adam Schwartzman -graduated from Clemson University in 1997 with a B. Greg Meyer - graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a BA in International Affairs.While at UC, he swam for one season, joined the rifle team for a season and joined Air Force ROTC.Upon graduation from UC, he was commissioned in the Air Force and is currently working on his Masters in Space Studies from the University of North Dakota.Greg has been at Randolph AFB in Texas, but in two weeks he will report to Robins Air Force Base in Georgia.He will be a Flight Commander for the 93rd Logistics Support Squadron. Steve Erdmann - UPDATE 8/7/03We have received word from Mrs. Erdmann that Steve has died from an accident he suffered in Egypt.Steve was riding in a bus at night on August 2, when it went out of control and flipped over.Steve was thrown through a window.He was in a hospital for 4 days and passed away on August 6 from injuries he sustained.Mr. Erdmann is in Egypt now to make arrangements to bring Steve's body back to the United States.Plans for a funeral will not be made until more information is received as to when they can expect this to happen.Anyone wishing to contact Mrs. Erdmann can write her at 7301 Nodding Way, Cincinnati, 45243.Steve had just left Africa to go to Egypt.Mrs. Erdmann stated that Steve died doing the thing he loved most - traveling around the world.
UPDATE - Steve was in town the first part of August 2000 and checked out our web site.He sent a very long message on the entire family, so check out Mark '86, and Scott '94.As for Steve, he graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt.His first job was with General Electric in Greenville, S. C..After being disillusioned with their environmental record and treatment of their employees,Steve took a job with Caterpillar in their Solar Turbine Division in San Diego, California.His job there was to working to make major reduction is NOx and CO emissions of industrial gas turbines.Turbines are used as one of the main methods of producing electricity, but also are one of the major contributors to the greenhouse effect.It wasn't all work as he had plenty of free time for scuba diving, surfing and snowboarding.He left this job to embark on a life long dream to travel the world.He has finished the first part of that leg by traveling from L. Adean Mills Golub - graduated from University of Texas with a BS in Political Science in 1992.From there she went to Brandeis University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and got her MS in 1994.That New Year's eve, she married Ben Golub, and in May 1999, they had a son, Matthew Robert Golub. Trish Klasmeier Schoenlein - attended Bowling Green on a swimming scholarship and graduated in 1992 in Visual Communications Technology.Trish swam for all four years at BG, which is how she met her husband, Craig.After graduating and returning to the Cincinnati area, Trish worked as a sales representative for the Queen City Awning Company.To keep in the sport of swimming, Trish swam for the Blue Ash Y Masters team and started her coaching career with the Sycamore Flying Fish , which she still continues to do.Trish and Craig had their first child, Stephanie, this past September, and she says that Stephanie is destined to be a swimmer also.Trish is now a stay-at-home mom and says she is working harder than ever.UPDATE 9/9/02Trish and Craig have their second girl, born September 3.They have named her Ashley.Trish continues to coach with the Sycamore Flying Fish.

Julie Augustin Asbeck - graduated in 1991 with a Bachelors degree in Marketing and Management.Julie has worked for several local hotels, the most recent one being the Blue Ash Hotel and Conference Center where she was Senior Sales Manager for 6 years.While at UC, Julie was on the drill team and met Chris Asbeck a football player and they were married in October 1992. I started working part-time in 1989 for Clermont County Juvenile Court and went full-time when I graduated. I worked there for 12 years before I quit to become a stay at home mom. I married in February 1991, and I have three children, Emily 11, Trevor 9, and Suzy 5. I've stayed connected to the pool when Emily turned 3 by becoming a swim instructor at the local YMCA. Dami Reams - graduated from University of Richmond in 1991 and except for a 3-year span in Virginia Beach, she has been in Richmond.She has bought a house in the city and works for Medtronic Physio-Control selling external defibrillators, "like the ones you see on ER." Dami's post high school swimming consisted of swimming for her sorority in an intramural swimming meet and setting a record for the 50 yard breast.She found this quite amusing, realizing the difference from the type of swimmer she was in high school. Meg Chisholm Rowell - graduated from Michigan with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and played soccer while there.Her first job was working for General Electric in several different areas.She left that job to go to Japan for a year teaching English in an Japanese school over there.She is now living in New Hartford, Connecticut and is married to an Englishman, John Rowell.Currently she is doing freelance work in software instruction and database consulting.Although Meg has done some Masters swim meets, she is more into doing cycling tours and is leaving in a couple weeks for a tour in England and Scotland. Mark Erdmann - UPDATEis living in Indonesia and is a Marine Biologist.He got his PhD in Marine Biology from Berkley. Mark was married to Arnaz Mehta in 1997 and they had a baby girl Mica in September 1999. Chris Higby Stewart - graduated from Miami Universitywith a Masters Degreein Paper Science Engineering. She moved to Rochester, New York and got a second Masters Degree in Applied and Mathematical Statistics from the Rochester Institute of Technology.She has been employed by Xerox Corporation for the past 7 1/2 years and is currently the Media Program Manager in the Media Technology Center.Her group designs and develops the media that Xerox sells.Chris was married in 1995 to Daniel J. Paul Taylor - graduated from Miami University in 1990 with a BS degree in Business.While there, he played a year of club water polo.He took a job in Chicago in Pharmaceutical Sales with Wyeth Ayerst. He also tried Masters swimming.He says he had forgotten how difficult the sport was until he tried a 4000 yard workout for the first time since leaving Sycamore. Brad Tieke - graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1990 with a degree in Engineering Management. While at the Academy, Brad was a four year swimmer and water polo player. Laura Stanley Maines - attended Eastern Kentucky University on a swimming scholarship.During her stay there, the University did away with their swim team, but Laura continued her studies there and graduated with a BS from the College of Physical Education in Sports Medicine in 1990.She later obtained an AS from the College of Allied Health and Nursing with a degree in Emergency Medical Care.She also has certifications in Adult Fitness and Sports Supervision and Coaching.Laura is a full-time Paramedic in Kentucky and loves it.She was married to Gary Maines in 1993 and they have three children, all very active.Blake, 6, is good in baseball, basketball and swimming.Brooke, 5, tries to keep up with her brother, and Bethany, 3, tries everything and anything.Laura and her husband play softball together a couple of times a week, and she also takes him on in racquetball!Laura noticed that she still holds some records and was amazed at that. UPDATE 2/25/09 Laura is a very busy person, both with her kids and in her job. She is still a Firefighter/Paramedic and the Wellness/Fitness coordinator for their department. She is training for the firefighter combat challenge and has been asked by Cincinnati State to instruct their firefighter fitness class. Betty Davis McManus - graduated from University of Cincinnati with a degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1988.She was married to Mike McManus in early 1989 and they moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, but she worked at Orbital Sciences in Boulder.While there, she helped design a communication satellite constellation.They left Colorado after 12 years and have been back in Cincinnati for a year now, living in Liberty Township, which is in the Lakota School System.Betty has three children, Kara, 9; Kevin 7; and Kelly 3.She is a stay at home Mom and loves it. Debbie Miller Schmitt - went to Miami University for two years and swam there.She transferred to the University of Missouri at Rolla and graduated in 1988 with a BS in Engineering Mechanics.Her first job was in St. Louis with the Nooter Corp., and a year later she moved to Aurora, Illinois, and worked for Chicago Bridge and Iron designing pressure vessels for oil refineries.She married Greg Schmitt in 1989, a Rolla graduate.In 1994 Greg got an offer from a company in Greenville, South Carolina, so they moved there.Their first child, Jaclyn, was only a week old at the time and Debbie became a stay at home mom.Their second child Kelsey was born in 1996, and their third child, Sydney was born in November 1998.Sadly, Greg was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease in 1998, and although he went through several forms of treatment and experimental therapies that were unsuccessful, Greg passed away April 30, 2000.Debbie credits her three little girls with helping her through these trying times.(e-mail:Dlmschmitt@aol.com)
Jean Morgan Martin - graduated from University of Cincinnati in 1988 with a degree in Communication Arts.Jean has worked since graduation for Lazarus Stores (Federated) in several capacities and in several places.Her first job was here in Cincinnati as a buyer in the swimwear and active wear department.She did that until May 1995 when Lazarus merged with Richs Department Stores in Atlanta, another Federated store.Jean states that 1995 brought many lifestyle changes with it.Not only did she and her husband, Bill, have to move to Atlanta, but they also had their first child, Tori, who is now six years old.Jeanworked as a buyer for Richs for two years, and then went into the technology end of the business in 1997.She currently is a Manager of Training Technology and Development/Merchant Systems for Federated Systems Group in Duluth, Georgia.Jean and Bill had another daughter, Katie, who is 2 1/2 years old.Jean is busy with her family, but does get to train for 5K/10K races, and is looking forward to the Peachtree Road Race that is coming up.She doesn't swim, but has passed the torch to Tori who just joined a swim team and loves it.Tori likes to ask Jean if she is faster than Jean was at the same age.Jean says her answer is always "yes".(e-mail:BO3JMM@FDS.COM)7/01

Jon Saxton - graduated from Miami University in 1986 and then went to the University of Cincinnati Law School.He is now a partner at the law firm of Rendigs, Fry, Kiely & Dennis doing trial work. He married Patti MacNab ('82) and they have three children, Jonathan 6, Julia 5, and Jennifer 3.They live in Terrace Park.Although Jon doesn't do much swimming, he loves hanging out at the pool and watching his children enjoy the water.

Rick Ehrlich - went to Iowa State University and graduated from there in 1987 with a degree in Speech Communications. Rick continued his swimming career there and was named to the All Big Eight Swim Team for four years.Also, in 1985, the was the Big Eight Champion in the 100 and 200 yard butterfly.Also in 1985, Rick was selected to the 12th World Maccabiah Games which took place in Israel and he won a gold medal and a silver medal for the butterfly there.Rick now lives in Cherry Hill, New Jersey with his wife Jill and daughter Marlee who is 5 years old.Rick has had her swimming butterfly since she was 3.(It must be in the genes, Rick.)Rick is the Associate Publisher for a medical journal called Geriatrics, part ofAdvanstar Healthcare Communications, one of the largest trade publishers in the world.Rick often thinks about his swimming and water polo career while at Sycamore.Being named First Team All-American for Water Polo his senior year was the "icing on the cake" for him.He also remembers well his relationship with Coach Lyons.He felt Coach Lyons was not just a coach but also a mentor and friend, a person who could help anyone reach their full potential.He finishes with this statement:"Coach Lyons influence on my life can't be put into simple words."UPDATE12/12/01Rick is now Publisher of the Medical Journal, Clinical Geriatrics, published by Freedom Healthcare.UPDATE 1/22/04 Rick has gone back to swimming with a Masters Team in N. Lisa Dunlap Fisher - is back living in Mason, Ohio, after being in California for several years.Lisa has two children; Leigh-Ann, 17, a senior at Mason H. Dave Uible - In the Sunday Enquirer on October 15, 2000, a wonderful article was printed about Dave, his wife (Cindy Cassell) and daughter (Emma), and what they are doing more as a hobby than as job.Both Dave and Cindy have their own jobs.I have taken the liberty of putting this in and I hope to make contact with Dave in the near future.Dave and his wife are living in New Richmond on an 175 acre farmThey are raising buffalo and have about 70 head in their herd.The article tells about their efforts not only in raising buffalo, but in trying to sell the meat.They have found several stores that will carry it and seven or so restaurants that will serve it.Not only does he raise the animals, but he also grows hay on about 80 acres of the farm, which he uses to feed the buffalo during the winter.Dave's real jobs have included starting several computer related companies, including a medical publishing company in Moscow, Russia, for the Russian Ministry of Health.In January, 2000, he sold a communications company he bought in 1997, and now is spending time investing in other people's ideas.UPDATEDave and his wife have introduced a new breakfast sausage with buffalo meet.For those locally that may be interested, Dave's wife, who is a licensed dietitian, will be giving a demonstration on Buffalo recipes at the Tri-Health Pavilion on Thursday, April 16.You may register with Tri-Health whether you are a member there or not.UPDATE 6/15/04Another newspaper article in the Cincinnati Enquirer updates Dave's efforts with raising buffalo, as well as with his "real job".With the new low-carb diets being so popular, Dave's business is doing very well.Recently Dave and his wife bought a restaurant themselves, as well as supplying other restaurants.In some of these restaurants, buffalo burgers are outnumber beef burgers.Dave is now helping struggling small companies to turn around through his business, Uible Management.(e-mail:uibled@yahoo.com)

Steve Ebeling - (Dave, Steve's brother, see class '82, wrote this for Steve.)Steve attended several colleges after graduating from Sycamore, but didn't find what he really wanted to do until after meeting his wife Kathy a Princeton graduate.Steve became a anesthetist and moved to Pueblo, Colorado.After several years, Steve, Nancy, and their boys, Josh and Danny, decided to try the sunny South and moved to Naples, Florida, so they could scuba dive more often.Having had enough of hot weather and sandy beaches, they have moved back to Colorado, except for their oldest boy, Josh, who is attending Georgia Tech.
Craig Leonard - swam for UC for one year after graduation from Sycamore.Then he decided to try the "dry side" of swimming and turned to coaching.He started out with summer league coaching and then moved into what is now called USA Swimming as a coach for the Anderson Barracudas.After taking a break for several years, Craig went back to coaching 5 years ago with the Cincinnati Marlins.This past summer he left the Marlins and is now the Head Coach of the Kentucky Clippers swimming program which is based in Northern Kentucky.(e-mail:DragonMystic1@aol.com)
