Water Polo Coach
NICHOLAS HELLWIG
Nick is returning for his third year at Sycamore. He is a teacher in the Social Studies Department and Head Water Polo coach. For the past two summers, Nick has run a summer water polo program for local players. This year he also ran a camp for new players coming up from the Jr. High, or are playing water polo for the first time. This should help the teams with recruiting new players. The program included about 30 players from several school. Nick had several players from St. Xavier and is looking forward to seeing join the schools with water polo next year.
The big event for Nick in 2009 was getting married in October - the middle of water polo season. This year, Nick is looking forward to celebrating his first anniversary.
In 2008, Nick coached the girls to 2nd place finish at State and the boys to a 3rd place in regionals. Last year was a disappointing year for both teams. The players and coaches have been working very hard towards the 2010 season and are looking for a return to state for both teams.
Nicholas comes to us with an excellent resume in the sport. He played for 4 years in High School in St. Louis, where his team never finished lower than third in the State Championships. In the off season, he played on two different club Teams. One was local, and one traveled to tournaments from Missouri to California.
In college he played at the University of Dayton. While there he worked up to be Captain and Coach of the team. While there, the team made NCAA Nationals in Florida where they finished in 16th place.
ALEXIS BLASBERG
Alexis is returning for her second year at Sycamore as assistant coach of the girls. She is from Miami, Florida, where here High School won 4 state championships while she was there. Alexis was voted State MVP her Senior year. At Brown University, she played all four years where they attained national ranking of 18th and 20th her junior and senior year. She also was captain her Senior year. Alexis is in her third year of her PhD in School Psychology at University of Cincinnati.
KAM KEELING
Kam Keeling is returning for his second year of coaching for Sycamore. Kam was a member of the Sycamore Varsity Water Polo team and a swimmer for 4 years, graduating in 2009. He will be helping Coach Hellwig as the Assistant Boys Coach. Kam brings many years of experience in water polo, having started started playing with River City when he was in fourth grade. Kam is starting his sophomore year at UC in Education, having switched from engineering. He is interested in teaching English in High School. Kam is also on the UC Club Bowling Team for his second year. Kam is looking forward to being more involved with the team since he can make more practices and games.
